Take the Weight Off...

This morning I am reminded of the scripture from Hebrews 12:1, this scripture specifically speaks on the weight of our sins that we so easily become entangled in. Yet, it speaks to the many other weights we carry in life. When I think of a weight, it's something that is heavy and potentially slows us down and/or hinders us. Weights, in this aspect, are more than physical; they are spiritual, emotional, and mental. People and connections can be weights, that we don't even realize we are carrying. For example, any relationship that has proven to be more of a burden than a help. A connection that has proven to hinder you more than help you grow. One that has proven to pull you away from, more than push you towards your purpose. Anything that's draining you more than pouring into you. These are all weights that need to be dropped, immediately.

Now listen, I know that may not be easy for some. If you're anything like me, you will find yourselves doing what I like to refer to as "people hoarding". Understand though, like I had to understand, the energy that is essentially wasted on those relationships and connections, is energy that could be put into your purpose, and those that push you towards it. Again, if you're anything like me it becomes an issue of loyalty. I'd hang onto the most draining, hurtful, and ultimately detrimental connections for the sake of "loyalty"; because God forbid I choose to no longer honor someone's toxicity and disloyalty with my loyalty. I'll never forget the words of a very dear friend, he asked me "Shawnetta, how long are you going to be loyal to a dead thing?" Quite the mind blowing and life changing revelation for me, because at the time I was mentally and spiritually dying over relationships and connections that weren't giving much of anything in return. Connections that were literal dead weights I was carrying; leaving me too exhausted and burdened to walk in my purpose in life. Dead weights can be any number of connections and relationships in your life, from church and business to family and friends. Take some time this week to reflect on what the weights you carry might be, then get rid of them!  They are keeping you from walking in your purpose and holding up the promise.

TAKE THE WEIGHT OFF!

"Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us."~Hebrews 12:1 NLT
